Marlins Acquire Luis Arraez In Trade With Twins

The Miami Marlins have acquired Luis Arraez in a trade with the Minnesota Twins, according to sources.

Arraez will head to Miami, while right-hander Pablo Lopez and a pair of prospects will be sent to Minnesota. The two prospects are highly-regarded teenagers shortstop Jose Salas and outfielder Byron Chourio.

Arraez, 25, won't hit free agency until after the 2025 season.

The Twins have been searching for controllable pitchers with Sonny Gray, Kenta Maeda and Tyler Mahle all eligible for free agency after 2023.

With Carlos Correa back on the roster, the likelihood of an Arraez trade has increased.

The Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins have discussed trade scenarios involving Pablo Lopez, according to a report.

Max Kepler and Luis Arraez have come up in discussions about who the Twins would send back to the Marlins for Lopez.

It was also reported that Minnesota contacted Miami about Lopez in mid-December.

Lopez, 27, has posted a sub-4.00 ERA in each of the last three seasons and the Marlins have a surplus of starting pitching.

"Many teams" have been involved in talks with the Pirates about Reynolds, who is controllable through 2025. The outfielder requested a trade in early December. 

The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners have been linked to Reynolds.
